Yes this feature is planned. I've created the following issue so that you can follow its progress and make suggestions:

This issue is distinct from the issue you noted because sharing histories/workflows/pages/visualizations uses a different framework from the one used to share datasets; the issue you noted deals with datasets, and we'll need to implement something similar for sharing other items.
