Hi All,

Wow, I can't read my email for 2 days (just fixed 3 hours ago), and look at all that happens!  I'm going to have email issues more frequently. ;-)

I'll invite Sonika.  I don't think I have heard back from Dr Singh yet (but I have a lot of email).  I'll wait until I hear from him before asking about Galaxy India.

And Ansshu (and Pratik): This is brilliant.  Please send the rest of us updates when you feel like it, and let me/us know what we can do.

INCOB Asia/Australia planning is moving forward...  I'll let you all know if and when there is concrete news.

Cheers,
Dave C

Hello Anshu,

Writing a EMBO or RSC grant is a great idea. If we target July 2020 as a tentative date for the workshop - it will be a good idea to start writing it now - so that we know by March 2020 about the possibility of a workshop.

On a side note, our application for ABRF workshops (Single cell genomics (Mo) and metatranscriptomics and metaproteomics (Galaxy-P and Freiburg)) were accepted. We will be presenting these workshops in February 2019. If it fits into the IMTech workshop plan, we will have proteogenomics, functional microbiome analysis workshops ready. Other topics can be discussed as well.

With Best Regards,
Pratik

Dear All,
Apologies for being out of contact for past few days, had a family emergency. I am glad the so much progress is made with respect to Galaxy India. We should write for a EMBO or RSC Grant to host a workshop in India. I have received RSC grant earlier as well and we can understand from them if this interests them.
Also, adding new people to the team is an excellent idea. It will be nice to have a strong base working out of India, the SEED Team :)
IMTECH (my parent organization in India) will be very much interested in hosting an international event. Let me know if we can start working towards this, it normally takes 5-7 months to finish the grant writing and approval process.
I will be glad to do anything that allows us to move forward.
regards,
Anshu

Hi All,

I think this is a great idea. Eventually, we are going to expand at some point in time and this is a good way to start networking and allow people interested in contributing to participate and take up responsibilities.

@Dave Clements Please add my twitter handle : https://twitter.com/glorybasumata

The first logo with the India flag looks perfect and we could ask permission to use it for non-profit purpose.

The name Galaxy India is memorable and best as it will be easier to be identified by global Galaxy users/community.

Best regards,
Glory

Yes, it would be great help to have people already involved in Galaxy and if they are already worked in India it would be great help. I'm fine with mentioning the name Galaxy India.

Hi All,

One of the people I contacted about a Galaxy Australia / Asia / Pacific community and platform was Sonika Tyagi, of Monash University in Melbourne.  Sonika has been involved in Galaxy for a while and has done workshops in India.  She was involved in planning the Galaxy AustralAsia Meeting in 2017.

Sonika can't make it to INCOB next month, but she is interested in the efforts of this group, and would like to be included in discussions.

Sonika also suggested contacting Dr Harpreet Singh, Head of Bioinformatics at HMV Jalandhar, Punjab, about INCOB and about this group.

What do people think?  Should we bring In Sonika? Should we bring in Dr Singh?

I'll contact Dr. Singh about INCOB shortly, but I won't mention Galaxy India, unless this group tells me to.

Thanks all,
Dave C
