Dear Dave C,
It was a great learning experience for me. When I started from India, I was having a feeling that something good is going to happen at INCOB. In fact, I got much more than expected. Apart from getting opportunity to present my work and chairing few sessions, attending the GALAXY regional community discussion and the workshop was something very significant. I was a great opportunity to have extensive discussions with Dave C, Gareth Price, Simon and Nuwan. I have a very strong feeling that we will together will be able to get a good start to Galaxy India community very soon.
I will try to personally meet Anshu and other members very soon to discuss the exact road map. Right now, I am discussing GALAXY project with my colleagues  and will try to make my students work on GALAXY platform. As discussed with Nuwan, I will also to make a local GALAXY server in my lab as a pilot project probably by mid of November.
Recently, I have got a task to upgrade the curriculum of M. Sc. Bioinformatics and I will utilize this opportunity to include a significant proportion of GALAXY tools in the Practical part.
I am thankful to all of you, especially Dave C for giving this rare opportunity.

Best Regards,
Harpreet Singh

Hi,

It was really great meeting everyone and great to see the Galaxy community gaining momentum in India. I've got in contact with some folks from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka, and they too have expressed an interest in participating in these regional efforts. At present, the community in Sri Lanka is somewhat nascent, so they may play more of an observational role, but in future, perhaps the community can grow to contribute additional resources to this effort. If that sounds ok at this stage, I can loop them into the conversation.

cheers,
/Nuwan

Hello all,

INCOB (and GOBLET) ran last week in Jakarta.  Harpreet was able to make it, and was actually pretty prominent, moderating several sessions and presenting a talk.  Galaxy was also pretty prominent at both GOBLET and INCOB.  Here's the report.

QFAB (Gareth's organization) and the Galaxy Training Network both renewed our GOBLET memberships and both groups expect to have a more prominent role in the coming year.  Not yet sure what form that involvement will take.

There were actually 4 Galaxy-related events on the program at INCOB. (There was an EpiMOLAS talk that I had missed.)  The talk by Gareth, the workshop (almost all Simon), and the breakout (Dave, Gareth, Nuwan, Farhan Sjaugi (Malaysia), Harpreet, and Asif) were all successes (in my not so humble opinion).  There was a great deal of interest in Galaxy, and in regional Galaxies especially.  We are likely to see Galaxy ASEAN and Galaxy Korea communities come out of INCOB 2019.

Harpreet had extensive conversations with Simon, Dave, Gareth, and Nuwan.  For my part, I promised to absolutely support events and community efforts in India in any way that I and the US team can.

Gareth, Nuwan, Simon and especially Harpreet: It would be great to hear what your impressions were.

Thanks,
Dave C
