Answering to myself: you have to activate the xsendfile module in apache and do the appropriate configuration described in the paragraph &quot;Sending files using Apache&quot;. Which makes sense of course since this is the way apache takes in charge the requests from the viewers (and copes with the byte-range requests). Sorry for the noise.<br>
