database_connection = mysql://xxx@xxx/galaxy?unix_socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
The “galaxy” after the uname and pw is the host or dbname?
I am asking because I get this:
OperationalError: (OperationalError) (2005, "Unknown MySQL server host 'galaxy' (1)") None None

Ah, probably the :, I thought it was valid to leave out the hostname
when connecting via a socket. Try:
mysql://xxx@xxx:localhost/galaxy?unix_socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
