Hello Peter,

The answer to your question depends upon 2 things: the type of data that is being discussed, and the Galaxy instance that will be used to host it.

Although Galaxy provides for data security, it has not been audited for security and almost certainly contains some security holes. This is why we never encourage anyone to place protected data on our main public Galaxy instance that we host here at Penn State ( http://main.g2.bx.psu.edu/ ) or any other public Galaxy instance.

However, this is also why we've worked so hard to make it trivially easy to run your own Galaxy instance behind your firewall, keeping all of your private data "safe".

If you could provide a few more details about the type of data you would like to upload to Galaxy, and what Galaxy instance you're thinking about, it may help us better answer your question.
