Welcome to the Galaxy Training Academy

Dear GTA participant, Welcome, and thanks for registering for the Galaxy Training Academy <https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/events/2025-05-12-galaxy-academy-2025.html>, our asynchronous global training event from 12-16th May 2025. There is less than two weeks left before the Galaxy Training Academy starts! Our learning event is asynchronous and self-paced. We provide you with training materials, which you can study at your own pace and speed throughout the entire week. Asynchronous does not mean that you are alone! People from all over the world will be on Slack, so join them to learn and share about all the great science happening, about the community, or whenever you need help. How can you participate? 1 Before the event: setup (see setup tab <https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/events/2025-05-12-galaxy-academy-2025.html#get-set-up-for-the-course> of the event page) - Create a Galaxy account on at least one of the Galaxy servers (Galaxy EU, Galaxy Main, Galaxy AU, Galaxy FR) - Join the GTN Slack space <http://gxy.io/gtn-slack>. You can find the individual room links at the end of this email. 2. During the Event - Start on Monday at your desired time with our Galaxy introduction tutorials <https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/events/galaxy-academy-2024.html#monday-galaxy-introduction>. In the morning you can take part in the Icebreaker by joining us in the Slack introduction channe <https://gtnsmrgsbord.slack.com/archives/C07NKAJ8THA>l. You can also start directly with the tutorials. If you need support, contact us via the Slack introduction channel. - Join the Training-as-a-Service link <https://usegalaxy.fr/join-training/gta2025> (if you are using usegalaxy.fr) before you start your tutorials. - If you are not new to Galaxy, relax on Monday <https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/events/2025-05-12-galaxy-academy-2025.html#get-set-up-for-the-course> or take a refresher tutorial! - From Tuesday to Thursday, pick one of our tracks. A track contains tutorials on a specific topic and provides a “learning pathway”. Follow the provided tutorials in chronological order within the track. Again, you will study asynchronously at your own pace. Please join the Slack track channel (linked at the program of the track) and introduce yourself or ask questions. - On Friday <https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/events/2025-05-12-galaxy-academy-2025.html#friday-grab-bag>, you can follow our Fair training session or check one of the trainings on the other tracks for a choose-your-own-adventure day. 3. After the event - The material will be available indefinitely after the event until they are updated, so you can take your time if you want to study multiple tracks. - The Slack channels won’t be closed, but the trainer's presence won’t be guaranteed at all times, so we won’t be as reactive to questions. - You can get a certificate for the tracks you attended by answering a short questionnaire to verify that you completed the training. The certificate request form will be available for several weeks after the event, allowing you sufficient time to understand the topic thoroughly. - We will ask for feedback from you to improve our future events; so please let us know about your experience. We are always learning and striving to provide the best quality material! - We hope to welcome you into the Galaxy community and support you in your future research endeavors. Keep an eye on our social media for new features, training material, and events. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or doubts about this process in Slack <https://gtnsmrgsbord.slack.com/archives/C01MNM98X9V> or via Email (academy@galaxyproject.org). Best wishes, The GTA-orga community P.S. Here are the Slack Channels we will use during the event. You should be automatically added to the Channels once you join the GTN Slack space.
