I don't believe this is currently available via the API - but we would like to move everything to the API so I don't see why this wouldn't be included (maybe with some rate limit-ting :)). I have created a Trello card:
This could potentially be fairly straight forward to move from a web controller to an API if you wanted to take this on and open a pull request :).
